PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to edit subtitles on your AI video clips

Automatic captions can mishear a name, a number or a specialist term. In AIClipPilot, correct the caption line beneath the clip preview, save it, then watch the updated video. Changing a subtitle changes the visible text; the recorded speech stays the same.

Caption corrections require Creator or Pro. Free includes automatic captions when transcription is available, plus individual MP4 downloads; it does not include subtitle editing.

Updated

Start with a clip that has captions

Open an available project and select the clip you want to correct. This guide applies to captions created for your uploaded video, not an existing subtitle file or text already burned into the source footage.

For a new project, upload a local MP4, MOV or WEBM file and leave “Automatic captions” on. The upload screen offers “Highlight current word” and “Classic white captions”. If it reports that automatic captions are unavailable, that run will not produce captions to correct.

  • Use headphones if names or quiet words are difficult to hear. Check a proper name against a reliable source instead of guessing its spelling.
  • Finish choosing the passage before polishing its captions. A later change to the clip can change the lines you need to review.
  • Keep your source file and work before the project expires. Storage is temporary on every plan.

Correct a line and save the video

  1. Find “Correct captions” below the preview

Select your clip in the review workspace, then look beneath its video preview. Edit the finished captions here. “Read the selected source text” is for locating the source passage and is not the caption correction panel.

  2. Click the line’s time and listen

The timestamp plays the preview from that line. Compare what you hear with the text. Check names, numbers, negatives such as “not”, and abbreviations before changing the wording.

  3. Edit only what the recording supports

Type the correction in that line’s text box. Each line must contain text and can have at most 80 characters. Use “Restore original” on a corrected line if you want to return to its automatic text.

  4. Choose “Save captions”

Saving updates the rendered video. Wait for processing to finish before deciding whether the correction has worked. While edits are pending, the preview can still show the previously saved version.

  5. Watch and download the updated clip

Replay the corrected line and the lines around it. Check legibility at phone size, then download the new MP4. A file you downloaded before saving does not update itself.

Keep a correction faithful to the audio

A correction can look different from the original animated captions: corrected lines retain their existing time window and display as whole lines. Keep the text concise enough to read within that window.

Illustrative example: correcting a product name

This invented example shows a spelling correction, not a measured transcription result. Do not add a product name, claim or number that the speaker did not say.

Know what caption editing changes

  • The correction changes the onscreen caption in the new video render. It does not replace the voice, translate the recording or change what the speaker said.
  • Caption text corrections retain their existing line timing. The timestamp is a playback control, not a way to drag or retime individual subtitle cues.
  • Clip start and end changes are separate editing controls. After changing a cut, review the resulting captions again.
  • This workflow exports the captioned MP4. It does not provide an SRT/VTT import or subtitle-file export workflow.

If a correction cannot be saved

  1. “Save captions” is disabled

Check whether you actually changed a line, left a line empty, or have a save already in progress. The workspace also rejects a blank clip title. Finish the correction and wait for any current operation.

  2. An upgrade prompt appears

Subtitle editing is included in Creator and Pro. Compare the plans in the prompt or on the pricing page. A free clip can still be previewed and downloaded without using paid editing controls.

  3. Saving or rendering fails

Read the project message and check the current project state before trying again. A failed render is not a corrected export. If the workspace restores an edit draft, review it before saving; do not treat the old preview as the new result.

  4. The project is unavailable or expired

A subscription does not restore expired files. Use your retained original to start a new project if necessary. Normally, project files are cleaned up about one hour after the last processing run ends; active processing extends that period and faults can delay cleanup.

Make one final pass before publishing

Watch the full exported clip with sound, then look at the captions at a small display size. Confirm that the first line makes sense, the corrected words are visible long enough, and the ending does not lose necessary context. AIClipPilot provides the file; you choose where to publish it.
