PRACTICAL GUIDE

Create a video clip by selecting transcript passages

An automatic shortlist may miss the answer or example you wanted. If your project still has its source and transcript, you can select the passage yourself and create another clip. Listen to the recording while choosing the boundaries; text alone does not reveal every pause or change of tone.

Creating clips manually requires Creator or Pro and an available project with retained source material and a transcript. An upgrade does not restore expired files or create a missing transcript.

Updated

Choose the right entry point

In a completed project, choose “Add clip from transcript”. Save or reset any current review edits first. The new clip joins the existing list; you do not need to upload the same source again.

If automatic selection did not produce a usable result, the processing result may offer “Create clip from transcript”. It appears only when the project has the retained material needed for manual creation. If a submitted draft was restored, use “Resume new clip” to review it.

  • Use this workflow to select footage that already exists. It cannot generate a new scene or make the speaker say new words.
  • Keep the project open while working and download before expiry. Projects normally expire about one hour after the last processing run ends; active processing extends that period.
  • If no transcript or source is available, follow the project’s recovery message. Manual selection cannot replace missing media.

Select the source, then create a preview

  1. Listen around the passage you want

Open the source transcript and use a line’s playback time to hear the original video. Include the setup when the answer begins with an unclear reference such as “that”, “it” or “because”.

  2. Choose the first and last lines

Use “Start here” on the opening line and “End here” on the final line. Review the selected passage, then choose “Use for new clip”. This selection identifies the source footage; it does not rewrite the transcript or speech.

  3. Review the selected range and add a title

The manual creator shows the source ranges and their combined duration. Enter a clear “Clip title” of up to 120 characters. The title is required; do not use it to claim more than the clip actually says.

  4. Check the output settings

When adding to a completed project, the new clip uses that project’s output settings. The review workspace can adjust framing and captions afterward. If you are creating from a processing result, check the available output settings before submitting.

  5. Choose “Create clip preview”

Wait for rendering to finish. Then watch the resulting clip, check its opening and ending, correct captions if needed and download the MP4. A source preview is a draft aid; the rendered clip is where you check the final joins, framing and subtitles.

Keep the answer connected to its question

For your own recording, listen just before and after the chosen range. A transcript line boundary is a place to start reviewing, not proof that the audio cut will sound natural.

Illustrative source selection

00:12–00:16 · question
What changed when you started recording the lessons?
00:16–00:30 · answer
Students could replay the difficult steps. We still kept a live question period for anything the recording did not explain.
Useful range
Keep the question and both parts of the answer. Ending after “difficult steps” would remove the qualification about live questions.

The timestamps and dialogue are invented to explain selection. They are not an automatic-clipping benchmark or a customer example.

Stay within the selection limits

  • A manual clip keeps between 1 and 90 seconds of source content in total.
  • You can use up to eight source passages. They must stay inside the original recording and must not overlap.
  • If using several passages, listen through their joins in the chosen order. Do not remove a condition, disagreement or qualification that changes the speaker’s meaning.
  • The clip title cannot be blank and is limited to 120 characters. Confirm the source selection as well as entering the title.
  • Routine edits and downloads in the same available project do not consume another set of analysis minutes. Processing still uses the server queue and does not promise an immediate result.

Recover without starting over unnecessarily

  1. “Add clip from transcript” cannot be used

Save or reset the current review changes first. Manual creation also requires the paid editing feature and retained source material. If a plan check is still pending, let it finish before trying again.

  2. The selected range is rejected

Check that the combined duration is 1–90 seconds, there are no more than eight passages, none overlap and none extend beyond the source. Choose the passage and fill in the title before creating the preview.

  3. Creation fails or processing is interrupted

Check the project status before submitting again. When a previous selection is restored, review it through “Resume new clip” and create the preview again if needed. Existing completed clips remain separate from the new draft.

  4. You need to leave the creator

The return warning offers “Keep editing” or “Discard edits and go back” when you have unsent changes. Stay if you need that title or selection. A restored submitted draft does not mean every unsent browser edit was saved.

  5. The source has expired

Use your own original file to create a new project. Neither a paid subscription nor a saved text selection can recover media that is no longer available.

Review the new clip alongside the existing ones

After successful rendering, the added clip appears in the project list and is selected to keep. Review that choice along with the other clips before export. Watch the MP4 itself after downloading; check that its captions and framing match the preview. Publish the finished file from your own account when you are ready.
